[ he is a nerd for his field... unfortunately, still a shitty man. When she shows interest, the excitement is so palpable in his voice?? ]
I agree! We might be able to learn how to handle things better in our own worlds by hearing different methods from other places and people. It's one of the reasons I accepted this weird contract to come here—new strategies and experiences. The application and execution might not be the same, but tactics can be universal.
[ vague hand gestures. okay, not as excited. ]
... This place isn't good about murder, y'know? I wouldn't feel good to know someone else might die just because I killed for a good reason. Then there's the execution stuff. It's a mess. [ Huffs. ] I was also monitoring him to learn more about his type. We haven't captured one like him at home.
I had planned to have people vote Mahito off this week. Did you hear that, too?
[She's not necessarily an unshitty person herself. The fact that he's a nerd automatically makes him more likeable to her, though.]
I don't think those principles are irrelevant to our current circumstances, either. At the least, it provides a different lens to view problems through, and allows one to correct one's own preconceptions. I often view death through a different prism, I suspect, than our Avatars do, for instance.
[Boring murder topics, though.]
I didn't hear that, no. Probably for the best that it hadn't spread widely. It likely would have made him more erratic.
That's true. [ Nodding. ] Oh, that's interesting... I can't say I see death too differently from people like Sasazuka and Mineo—people like them are the majority where I come from, but sorcerers have a skewed mindset overall.
[ Hmm. Yeah, the not as interesting talk. ]
Fortunately, I told people I trusted and that they were careful in telling their circles.
[ He shrugs. He considered Harrowhark in one of those circles is why. ]
I'm not sure I would have agreed to your plan from the outset - it would have depended on other factors. My understanding is that there are reasons to take these trials seriously outside of merely punishing culprits. So maybe that's why.
That's an astute observation. [No comment, though.] We don't have any such system where I'm from, and this isn't anything along the lines of what I'd consider justice. And I think your position is fair.
But I also do hold the position that there is value in learning what we can - within reason. I'm not going to spend hours trying to find out who killed Mahito when it's better he's gone.
Mineo. But he also warned me of the need to not spread it too widely, as he'd be more dangerous if he felt cornered or stopped having people to toy with.

[ Trust and faith in people, blah blah. ]
Do you know something else about the trials? Or is that from your own observations?

Greed seems to know a lot about the justice system, actually. I wouldn't be surprised if they once had a position in law.
[ But! ]
I also like Greed, but I hope you understand that I will use the system however I need to.

Yeah, I agree. I'm curious to know the truth, but my time is better spent on other things. [ And since they're on Mahito. ] Who warned you?

[ mineo is a good boy. ]
Got anything else you wanted to talk about before the grand execution tomorrow?

[The execution that will definitely go really well.]
Not particularly. [But let's PC again post Monday meeting.]

[ he has been Watching golly, but. Yeah. ]
Then I'll see you around, Harrowhark! Looking forward to our talks.
